Hi everybody !
I took the Start Up program at the Option Institute and I'm not rich I'm a mother of 4 kids my husband is the only person who works in my house, we rent an apartment and English is not my first language so I hope you understand my testimony. The Autism Treatment Center of America helped me with an scholarship to attend The Start Up Son Rise program and that was the best decision that I could make about my beautiful son with Autism because to understand what is Son Rise program you should be there to learn everything in the correct way. Many people can say different things and it's OK but I noticed are people who don't know this correct, my husband was one of them. When I found out about Son Rise I thought that I want to try and my husband told me " don't go they are going to steal your money , I don't think this is true". But at that point I was with deception about some teachers and programs for autistic kids, programs that frustrate them, because it's true ABA help them but frustrate them at the same time and I had a bad experience in a school using TEACH program because some teachers are there just to earn money doing something and babysitting kids instead of really working with them, as a parent I know about methods and programs for Autism I educated myself about this since my son diagnosis but I was looking for something that really works and is when I decided to go to The Option Institute to learn, so I told my husband "don't worry if they steal my money I'm going to do it" so he responded "are you sure?" I answered "ye" so he responded " I'm coming with you to protect you" So we went together and when we were there he was so happy telling me 'thank you my love to make me come this is so beautiful, the teaching Oh My God now I really understand our son, I'm learning to put myself in his shoes with the exercises that we are doing and thank you to make me come!"
It was on December 2008 after that we are using Son Rise as a life style with my child with Autism and the understanding and all that apply with my other children and believe me that acceptance is happiness and peace.
About accepting your child's Autism as I said before you have to be there and learn everything in the correct way, accepting means to understand him, to love him as he is to don't feel shame when he is steaming because now you know why is he doing this but at the same time that puts you to work hard with the kid enjoying life and enjoying your child as he is, now you know what to do when he does something and it's OK if you don't know too at the moment, you don't feel that pressure any more believe it people THIS IS SO WONDERFUL! When I attend the Start Up my son wasn't talking and he use to be in his own world, now HE TALKS A LOT, he plays with my other children, he can recognize emotions and I'm so happy.
You don't really need a room to work with them The ATCA give you ideas and you fix them at your convenience or possibilities!
I love you people and no matter what is your opinion about this any way I love you because this is not a debate or discussion for me is something that is happening to us and I just want to share with you! :)

Raun Kaufman is one of my friends, I have known him for a few years now. I have spent time with him in normal social situations and I have always found him to be able to act spontaneously and quickly to what is going on around him. He is funny and intelligent on a wide range of subjects, thoughtful to others and able to imagine how other people would feel. He has never tried to sell me anything. If I had not known he had been autistic in his past, then I certainly would not have guessed it.
Just in case you were wondering - my surname is not Kaufman - I am English.
If you discovered something that was revolutionary and extrordinarily helpful to people would you keep that to yourself? The Kaufmans discovered something that turned their lives upside down in finding a way to help their child to recover from autism - he was diagnosed as incurable autistic with an under 30 IQ - the other story of language delay is totally untrue. Should they keep their finding to themselves? Well they chose to devote their life's energy to sharing it with everyone else on the planet so that they can choose it for themselves if they want. Yes it costs money to run an organisation. If you went on holiday and had full board and lodging for a week you would pay a similar amount of money - but at the Option Institute you get a weeks training too. But it is a choice, no one is suggesting that you have to do a Son Rise program. It's a choice, but if you have something that you believe is highly effective then of course you want other people to choose it too. It's part of being loving and wanting the best for other people.
I am very grateful to Raun for continually being prepared to put his life into the public eye, knowing that some people will want to judge him - his reason for doing it....he wants other children challenged by autism to be given the same chance he had.

Would it be permissible to place this podcast on my website and share it with my list? Clearly I would place a link back to this website. I will be presenting at the Autism Works Conference with Scott and James Emmett and this would really help get the word out. Thank you so much. Awesome interview.

To the gentlemen doing the interview of Dr. Melillo I found you to be somewhat rude especially so because you didn't take time to read his book. Had you taken time to read his book you would have been better able to interview him with more insight and less hostility.

If you take this program seriously do your research.

Thanks
